After the war, the family circle was formed with monthly family meetings bringing the adults together.
For the children, there were family picnics in the late spring at a number of different state parks and family seders
and Chanukah parties each year in the basement of the family house in Brooklyn.
Family seders were a large undertaking with many of the women cooking with Mollie for days before the event.
At the seder, each child was given a tag to wear with his or her job (fish server, soup clearer, etc.).
Each year, after the Four Questions, the reading and the eating, we ended the evening with rousing choruses of Chad Gad Ya, Adir Hu and the family favorite Chups ‘em and Bins ‘em, a song about a thief!
Chanukah parties had a gift exchange and picnics featured relay races, softball and lots of food. In the interest of bringing us all together, our parents created traditions that brought lasting memories.
