Mollie and Joe Leavy

Mollie and Joe were married in 1937. They lived their entire married life in Brooklyn. In the 1950s and 1960s, most of the Peretz Family Hanukkah Parties and Passover Seders were held in the basement of their home at 2103 74th Street.  They had three sons, Michael, Robert and Donald.

Joe had to quit school at 13 years-old to help put food on the table for his family. He went on to work for the same company, Bucilla Yarn Company, for 51 years. Joe was an avid stamp collector.

Mollie was President of the Bensonhurst Group of Hadassah for many years but always made sure that dinner was on the table every night at 6:30 p.m. She was admired for her homemade pastries and her fantastic homemade gefilte fish. The house was kosher except for the times when we brought in Chinese food and brought up special dishes from the basement that were kept in a pickle barrel.

Michael married Linda and had three children: Lisa, Andy and Peter. They in turn married and have nine children and one grandchild.

Bobby married Sylvia and between them have three children: Liz, Peggy and Patricia. They are all married and between them have five children.

Donald married Ila and had two children, Paul and Steven They are both married and have five children between them.

Unfortunately, there are only a few of us left who can sing the Peretz Family Song!
